The Castle
Off-Broadway

On Saturday, June 14th, Zach and I, along with Mom and Pop went to see a very different sort of show, called the Castle. I found it very moving and powerful.

The Castle – the true-life account of incarceration and life beyond – has extended its run at Off-Broadway's New World Stages through Aug. 30.

Conceived and directed by David Rothenberg, The Castle features Vilma Ortiz Donovan, Kenneth Harrington, Angel Ramos and Casimiro Torres, who all tell their real-life experiences. In addition to its Saturday and Sunday performances Off-Broadway, The Castle has toured to Rikers Island and performed for New York State legislators in Albany.

The Off-Broadway production was inspired by the resident home run by the Fortune Society in upper Manhattan. The dramatic work features personal accounts of formerly incarcerated individuals and their re-entry into society.

Judy and Me
Off-Off-Broadway

To do my part to celebrate gay Pride weekend, I invited Zach to join me at this "gay play" that was a lot of fun. It's about a gay teenager, growing up in the NYC suburbs, coping with homophobia at school and an abusive father at home. In order to cope, he "chats" in his bedroom, with Judy Garland, his ultimate idol (whose paraphenalia plasters the room...) It's a true story, written by the man who plays Judy in the play! This was off-off Broadway, but will be moving to Off-Broadway in the fall. It was quite funny.
