This past Saturday, August 16, Alice and I begun our spectacular evening with a Whole Foods picnic in Central Park. (actual photo below from a similar Whole Foods picnic in Union Square...) We then strolled over to the bandshell in Damrosch Park on the south end of Lincoln Center, for a free performance in their summer series, Lincoln Center Outdoors. The first performance was a Washington DC professional step troop that originated at Howard University, Step!Afrika. They combine the art form of stepping from African American sororities and fraternities with similar traditional forms of rhythm and dance from Africa. They were wonderful! I could have watched them all night! The next performance was a modern dance group, that choreographed their routines to the music from the Sound of Music. Parts of their dances were serious and classical, but they also included some stepping and other very modern dance and hip-hop, for an overall hilarious effect. The show even included a do-re-mi singalong. It was spectacular!
Afterwards, we headed to the swanky roof-top bar at the Empire Hotel, which is directly across from Lincoln Center. Definitely the nicest bar I've gone to in NYC. (last time Alice was there, she spotted Claudia Schiffer...) but sadly, no celebrity sightings on Saturday...
