Madonna at Madison Square Garden!

Monday, October 13

My second fun-filled Monday in a row spent with my dear friend Alice, who managed to score last minute tickets to the Madonna concert that had originally sold out in less than 2 hrs. during presale! The show was truly outstanding. I had not been to a big arena show in quite some time (and the last couple I can even remember were Dave Matthews and Simon and Garfunkel) so I had kind of convinced myself that arena shows were too big and impersonal compared to the smaller/local shows I'm such a fan of. However, I was way behind the times when it came to what they can do now with lights and stage affects and even the multi-media/graphic design on the enormous screens behind the performer. Madonna pulled out all the stops. The effects were amazing. She even made some pretty powerful social statements/political statements and also cussed out Sara Palin! I loved the Madonna around the world music montage, which included lots of her songs with a world influence. The stage was full of dancers in world costumes and musicians of all kind, even an amazing old fiddle player! She also even included a ballad from Evita, which was most unexpected. GREAT show, and GREAT night!! I now have a new found respect for Madonna, and the fact that she embodies the icon of a true American ROCK STAR!
