New York Musical Theater Festival

October 6, 2008

At the recommendation of my cousin, Paula, I decided to check out one of the shows featured in the New York Musical Theater Festival. Somewhere over 200 playwrights applied to the festival, and about 30 were chosen to participate. I went to see That Other Woman's Child, which was written and directed by 2 playwrights from Chattanooga. It was a bluegrass musical!! Complete with fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin, washboard, and spoons. The play was set in rural Kentucky and sadly, I am sure that I could probably relate to the redneck characters a little better than the rest of the New Yorkers in the audience. I went with my token Southern friend, Alice.
The dancing even included some good old fashioned clogging! It was an adorable show, and I would love to see it again someday!
