Election Day 2008...Making History in New York City!!

Election morn' started out bright and early...luckily our polling station was only across the street and about 3 doors down. We were in line by just after 6:00, when the polls opened. It took us a little over an hour to cast our historic vote!! This was my third time voting in a Presidential Election, and the first time that I have voted for the WINNER!

Feeling hopeful, bright and early...even without a shower...

After voting, Zach and I headed to the CBS Early Show to volunteer for Rock the Vote! Originally it was supposed to be Good Morning America, but the venue got switched the night before. We thought we were going to just stand and wave at the camera, but when we got there we found out that we would be handing out free Rock the Vote t-shirts to anyone who promised us that they had or would vote that day.

We handed out t-shirts right in front of CBS, the Apple Store on 5th Ave., the Plaza Hotel, and Central Park. Then it was time to wave to the camera and look pretty. Ashanti was the special election day guest that morning...

That night, we were fairly lame...we staid at home, cooked a kick'n dinner, and watched the election results come in on CNN. Others in the city gathered in Times Square and Rockefeller Center. Just as the announcement was made on CNN that Obama was projected to win, the cars in the streets started honking their horns and the pedestrians were screaming and cheering. Zach and I ran to the window and stuck our heads out, and yelled along with everyone else. "Obama!!!!!!!!!". The announcer on CNN was showcasing different cities and their reactions to the news..."the cabs in New York City are driving through town honking their horns in celebration," he said. It was true! They were celebrating and we were celebrating right along with them. What a wonderful night for this country!!!
