Drinks at the Plaza and the Four Seasons

Zach likes to pretend like he has a lot more money than he does, and indeed he fits in well with the social elite who sit many, many rungs above us on the socio-economic ladder. He had been proposing for quite sometime that we start a tradition of happy hours at the bars in all of New York's fanciest hotels. I myself, am much more comfortable at the local pub, where I know I can afford the beer, but when Zach's family came into town we decided to show off a bit and show them the Plaza Hotel and Four Seasons. I have to say, I really enjoyed myself. The customer service you recieve along with a ten dollar bottled Amstel Light is really outstanding. And at the Four Seasons, the complimentary wasabi-pea snack mix is definitely worth the price tag of the beer.

We started at the Oak Bar at the Plaza Hotel. Located on the corner of Central Park South and Fifth Avenue, the Plaza is over 100 years old and is simply dripping with marble, chandeliers, and generally ostentatious displays of grandeur. The Oak Bar was as cozy and inviting as it sounds. Low lighting and old, oak wood paneled walls set a lovely setting for our first round.

Next, we headed to the Four Seasons. Designed by I.M. Pei, the Four Seasons is classy and elegant, yet with a much cleaner and more simple sophistication than the Plaza. The service here was outstanding. And the snack mix may even entice me to go back someday...After a couple of rounds (and a $200+ bar tab later) we headed to a nearby pub where we could continue drinking for about a third of the price, at a bar where we actually fit in.
